When a commercial client or an industrial client asks me about a 2 mw solar power plant cost, the first question is always about money. Current EPC quotes run from ₹6 crore to ₹9.5 crore, which means ₹3-4.75 crore for each MW, so the cost per MW shifts a lot.

The total cost swings across this range mainly because buyers choose between DCR modules and non-DCR modules.

2 Mw Solar Power Plant Cost

The solar plant price in India depends on more than the number of solar panels you install. System capacity, module technology, inverter selection, mounting structure, land, and grid connectivity all push the final project cost up or down.

A 10 kW rooftop solar plant needs very different equipment and installation requirements than a 1 MW or 2 MW ground mounted solar plant, and the electrical infrastructure and installation work change with each size.

In 2026, businesses, industries, institutions, and  2 mw solar power plant costinvestors treat solar as a long-term energy asset. Before you request an EPC quotation, learn the main cost components. That habit helps you compare project proposals and see the scope and project costs each one covers.

 Explaination

A 2 MW AC plant usually needs 2.3-2.4 MW DC of panels, so DC capacity matters when you compare quotes. One EPC-focused estimate shows ₹7-9.5 crore, while a 2026 market estimate shows ₹6-7.5 crore. The gap comes from DCR against non-DCR imported modules, and the Domestic Content Requirement decides which one you can use.

A 2 MW plant gives you about 8,000-10,000 kWh of daily generation, which adds up to 28-34 lakh units of annual generation. At these numbers, 2 mw solar power plant cost the simple payback runs 3-3.3 years before you count tax benefits.

Compare your own grid tariff and electricity per unit rate to work out your real payback, and check the solar panel GST rate and the ITC treatment too.

Prices move fast, because module prices change 10-20% quarterly. Ask for a fresh quote before you lock in any capex. Module type, inverter configuration, civil work, grid infrastructure, location, and site conditions all change the quotation, and ground-mounted layouts need land required of 8-10 acres.

Smaller sizes show the pattern clearly. A 10 kW system costs ₹4 lakh to ₹7 lakh, a 25 kW system costs ₹9 lakh to ₹15 lakh, and a 50 kW system costs  2 mw solar power plant cost ₹18 lakh to ₹30 lakh.

A 100 kW plant costs ₹35 lakh to ₹60 lakh, a 250 kW plant costs ₹90 lakh to ₹1.5 crore, and a 500 kW plant costs ₹1.8 crore to ₹3 crore. A 1 MW plant costs ₹3.5 crore to ₹6 crore, so treat all of these as indicative ranges.

For a 2 MW system, expect ₹6 crore to ₹7.5 crore+, and the cost per MW lands between ₹3 crore and ₹4.75 crore. Utility-scale and ground-mounted projects need a BOQ, short for Bill of Quantities, so you can see every line of the project scope.

That list covers the project design, installation, grid connectivity, module technology, land, project costs, total cost, and capacity.

DCR vs Non-DCR

DCR is the single biggest lever in your total cost. Domestic Content Requirement means the plant must use India-manufactured modules whenever DCR compliance applies. PM KUSUM, the CPSU scheme, SECI tenders, and state DISCOM procurement all make it mandatory.

A private C&I rooftop, captive projects, captive consumption, and open access setups usually skip that rule. Without a government scheme, 2 mw solar power plant cost non-DCR gives you more flexibility in module selection, within applicable regulations, procurement conditions, and domestic-content conditions. I call it the cheaper path and the faster path for pure captive buyers.

Each configuration has its own price. A non-DCR build costs ₹6.00-6.50 crore for a 2 MW plant, or ₹25,000-27,000 per kW (DC), while a DCR build costs ₹6.50-7.50 crore, or ₹27,000-31,000. The cost premium runs from ₹60 lakh to ₹1 crore for a 2 MW plant.

What Actually Drives the Per-MW Price  ?

I check eight variables every time I size the per-MW price. Module specification is the largest factor, and DCR vs non-DCR sits at the heart of it, because DCR modules and non-DCR modules carry different prices. Site conditions, terrain, grid  2 mw solar power plant costconnection distance, DISCOM interconnection charges, and state-level grid charges also move the total cost.

Mounting type matters too. Fixed-tilt costs less, while a single-axis tracker adds ₹40-60 lakh. Inverter brand tier and EPC partner margins add their own share.

Panel prices swing 10-20% quarter to quarter, so module market timing changes your project costs.

Solar panel technology also shapes the bill. Buyers pick between Mono PERC, N-Type TOPCon, and bifacial modules. High-efficiency modules produce more power from the same installation area, which helps when rooftop space or land runs short, and their performance characteristics should match your site.

Module wattage changes the count of parts. A 1 MW DC system with 500Wp panels needs about 2,000 modules, while 600Wp panels need about 1,667 modules. Higher-wattage modules cut the number of modules, structures, and connections in the final system design for the same DC capacity.

That is why two plants with the same capacity can still show very different project costs and total cost.

Land and Space Requirements

A photovoltaic power generation system turns sunlight into electricity through solar PV modules, also called solar modules. Solar inverters convert that power 2 mw solar power plant cost  into AC power, and the inverter then feeds your electrical loads or the grid, depending on the project configuration.

The system also includes module mounting structures, DC and AC cables, combiner and protection equipment, and transformers.

The plant also needs earthing and lightning protection, monitoring and SCADA systems, and metering equipment. Civil and structural work and grid connectivity infrastructure complete the build.

A 2 MW ground-mounted plant needs 8-10 acres, or 4-5 acres per MW, once you count panel spacing to avoid inter-row shading, access roads, and the inverter/substation area.

A rooftop 2 MW installation needs 18,000-22,000 square feet of shadow-free roof area. Shading and site terrain raise BOS costs, short for balance of system.

When I build an estimate, I start with the offtake structure: captive use, open access sale, or a government scheme like PM KUSUM, SECI, or DISCOM procurement. That answer settles your DCR vs non-DCR eligibility.

Next, I collect module pricing. Because prices move 2 mw solar power plant cost 10-20% quarterly, I send back any quote older than 60-90 days for a re-verified quote.

I then pick the mounting type: fixed-tilt works as the default, while single-axis tracking adds ₹40-60 lakh and lifts 15-20% generation.

I also confirm the grid interconnection distance and DISCOM charges, since headline EPC quotes often leave them out.

Last, I model the 25-year economics instead of the upfront cost alone. The levelized cost of energy after tax benefits usually lands at ₹2.50-3.40 per unit, and that 2 mw solar power plant cost  number decides whether the plant beats your grid tariff. Good economics make or break the whole project.

FAQS About 2 Mw Solar Power Plant Cost

How much does 1 MW of solar cost?

A 1 MW solar plant usually costs between ₹3.5 crore and ₹6 crore, depending on what the quotation includes, such as land, grid infrastructure, and civil work.
Treat these as indicative ranges and ask for a fresh quote before you plan your capex.

What is the cost of 1 MW in PM Kusum Yojana?

Under PM KUSUM, you must use DCR modules, so the cost premium applies, and a 2 MW DCR build costs ₹6.50-7.50 crore.
Scaled down, a 1 MW plant would land near ₹3.25-3.75 crore, but that is my own estimate, so confirm it with an EPC quote.

Can we setup 2 MW of solar plant in 4.5 acres of land?

For a ground-mounted plant, the honest answer is no, because a 2 MW plant needs 8-10 acres for panel spacing, access roads, and the inverter/substation area.
4.5 acres fits about 1 MW, or you can choose a rooftop setup with 18,000-22,000 square feet of shadow-free roof area.

How much does a 2.5 kW solar plant cost?

Your content has no 2.5 kW price, so this is a rough estimate based on ₹4 lakh to ₹7 lakh for 10 kW, which puts it near ₹1 lakh to ₹1.75 lakh.
Small systems often cost more per kW, and inverter configuration, module type, and location can push the quotation higher.
